Aquatics Department Goal
To provide a positive water experience through a variety of quality programs to help make a water-safe community.
Aquatics Staff
Our staff holds certifications in lifeguarding, AED, CPR, First Aid, Blood Borne Pathogens, Caring Power, and Child Abuse Prevention. Additionally, instructional staff may hold lifeguard or water safety assistant certifications. We encourage individuals to work at their own pace and to never stop learning.
At least one lifeguard is on duty during all aquatic programs.

Lesson and Water Fitness Class Attendance Policy
Make-ups are not available for missed swim lessons, nor can class times be altered. A credit for swim lessons and water fitness classes may be given for medical reasons only, provided these three conditions are met:
*Credit Request Form is fully completed. (Available at Courtesy Desk.)
*A doctor's note is attached to the Credit Request Form.
*The credit request is made during the session for which the participant is currently registered.
Once class registration is complete, refunds, credits, or transfers will not be granted. Classes may be canceled due to inclement weather, mechanical failure, or contamination of the water (biological or otherwise). Weather closings are based on the actions of the Valparaiso Community School Corporation. In inclement weather, please contact the YMCA first to confirm that the programs will take place. On the occurrence of closure due to mechanical failure or contamination, the YMCA reserves the right to change the location of the scheduled classes to the other pool whenever possible or offer make-up classes. If an event occurs with enough time to do so, participants will be notified via their phone number on file.
Late Registration
Registration for all swim lessons is required before the first week of the session. Late registration may be allowed in certain situations, however there must be written verification from the Aquatics Director and a $10 late fee will be charged.
Cancellations
All aquatics classes may be cancelled or combined with another due to lack of enrollment.
