We are pleased to announce a new policy that we believe will be fair for all members of the Valparaiso Family YMCA!

Dear Members,
We realize that some of the free fitness classes have filled shortly after registration begins. Beginning October 26, a FIRST COME, FIRST SERVED policy will replace the registration system for all free land fitness classes** and will give all members equal opportunity to attend classes. The NO REGISTRATION model has been shown to have a positive impact on members at similar YMCAs. The procedure will be as follows, and is subject to change:
1. Line up in order of arrival at the designated location near the fitness studios. Please respect those who are behind you in line and do not save space for others.
2. Enter class in order of arrival only when the instructor lets you into the studio.
3. Exit the studio when class is over. Note: All participants must exit the room even if they plan to attend the next class. Your following this procedure is respectful of fellow members who are also following the procedures.
4. If the studio door is closed, this means either:
a. Class is full; or
b. You need to wait for instructor to arrive and set-up before he/she opens the door for class.
5. Instructor will determine class is full when all equipment is in use or floor space is full. Instructor will close the studio door when class is full. Class capacities will be listed on the group exercise schedule.
To ensure that land fitness classes are available to members, these free classes will no longer be available to
non-member Community Participants.
We appreciate your patience and understanding as we all – members and staff – adjust to these new procedures. We value your input to help us make adjustments as the need arises. You may leave us feedback by filling out a “Comments & Suggestions Card” at the Courtesy Desk, stopping by the Wellness office, emailing Lee Baker at lbaker@valpoymca.org, or calling her at 462-4185 x. 239.
One last note: We plan to increase class offerings and need fitness instructors to teach! If you or someone you know would like to join the Y team, please contact Lee. Thanks!
**Does not include Aquatics, Sports, or Mind and Body programs.
