For Beginners through Advanced. Increase self-confidence and self-esteem through Ju-Jitsu, the Japanese art of self-defense. Defensive techniques and conflict resolution skills will be introduced in a comprehensive system of self-protection. Beginner-Advanced. Instructor: Joe DeJesus.

Tae Kwon Do (ages 7-adult)

Tae Kwon Do is an eclectic style of martial arts characterized by spinning and high kicks. The goal of this martial art is to help its practitioners develop needed skills, not only for the demanding physical moves that martial arts require, but also for our daily lives. “We do not live to do martial arts; rather we do martial arts to live.” Black Belt 2nd degree instructor José Rodea.

Note: On Tuesdays, all students will participate in class at the same time. On Thursdays, the class will be separated into the two times indicated below. Students will be told on the first Tuesday of the segment which time to come for their Thursday class.

Toeido (ages 12-adult)

Toeido is a mixed martial art blending elements from traditional Japanese styles and modern tactics. Class is geared heavily toward self-defense. Instructor Shawn Housler – certified Black Belt.

Free Practice Time (ages 1st grade - adult)

Free Practice Time is under the supervision of a martial arts instructor. Only those presently enrolled in a martial arts class at the Valparaiso Family YMCA may attend. All participants must register for this free time.

Joe DeJesus, Shawn Housler, and Jose Rodeo bring many years of teaching experience to their martial carts classes.  All classes are geared toward earning a belt.
