The Valparaiso Family YMCA offers certified health and safety courses designed to respond to emergencies, including American Red Cross Lifeguarding Certification & Recertification courses, a CPR & AED certification course, and a First Aid course. In order to participate in our Recertification Courses, participants must hold a current American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification. Blended learning, e-learning, and a swimming pretest will be required for all certification courses.
Lifeguarding Certification & Re-Certification
American Red Cross Lifeguard Course | Ages 15+ | $175M/$225CP
This lifeguard certification includes CPR/AED and First Aid. Class teaches the basics for lifeguarding only and is a highly accepted lifeguard certification nationwide.
Our next lifeguard certification class dates have been set! Must be able to attend all dates in the selected month below.
A swim pre-test is required to enroll: Contact Deanna Hardin, Aquatics Supervisor email@example.com to schedule. Once you complete the pre-test, you will receive a pass to sign up at the front desk.
Pre-test: 300 yard swim, 25 yard swim with brick removal from the deep end, and 2 minute tread without hands.
American Red Cross Lifeguard Recertification | Ages 15+ | $100M/$150CP
This course re-certifies Red Cross lifeguards. Participants must hold a current Red Cross Lifeguard certification. Available Class Dates:

CPR for the Lay Person | $60M / $80CP
The Adult and Pediatric CPR/AED course incorporates the latest science and teaches students how to respond to breathing and cardiac emergencies to help victims of any age – adults (12 years and older) and pediatric (infants and children up to 12 years of age). Students who successfully complete this course will receive a certificate for Adult and Pediatric CPR/AED valid for two years.
CPR /AED for Professional Rescuers & Health Care Providers | $80M / $100CP
Designed for individuals with a duty to respond to emergencies. This program combines discussions with video and hands-on training. Course covers how to respond to emergencies in adults, children and infants until more advanced medical personnel take over. Participants will be trained on CPR (one- and two-rescuer), AED, Ventilations (including BVM) and Choking (conscious and unconscious). Available in person and via our blended training method, which combines online work with hands-on skills sessions, our training delivers the latest information in the format that suits you best. The online portion must be completed prior to attending the in-class portion.
Those requiring the First Aid Training course may register with an additional fee of $30/Members or $35/Community. Must register in person to receive discount. Call 219.462.4185 for more information.

American Red Cross first aid training classes give you the information and the skills you need to help adults and children during many emergency situations. Available in person and via our blended training method, which combines online work with hands-on skills sessions, our first aid training delivers the latest information in the format that suits you best.
