T-Ball | Ages 3-7
T-Ball is designed to teach young T-Ball players the fundamentals of the game. Participants will learn how to catch, throw, and bat in a fun team atmosphere. YMCA youth t-ball promises no try outs, no getting cut and no bench warmers! Every child plays at least half of every game while making friends and learning new techniques. Each team practices one day a week: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday. Depending on each player's availability for practice will determine what team they will play for.

Indoor Soccer | Ages 3 - Grade 6
A fast paced and energetic sport for children of all ages. We offer Indoor Soccer programs that will teach your child the fundamentals of ball control, passing and shooting. YMCA Soccer is designed to introduce the sport in a fun way to the youngest players and then continue to build skills, confidence and teamwork as players grow. Shin guards are not required but are recommended for all age groups. Through practice and games, children will develop coordination and motor skills to enhance skills such as quickness and agility.

Outdoor Soccer | Ages 3 - Grade 6
Our Y is hosting an Outdoor Soccer League that will include practices that will focus on ball handling skills, scoring plays, and developing as a better soccer player and sportsmanlike individual. Practices are on weekdays M-TR in the afternoons and games will be held on Saturdays.

Basketball | Ages 3 - Grade 6
Volunteer coaches will lead children through practices focusing on the fundamentals of dribbling, shooting, passing and defense. Players will have practice once per week (M-TH), with games held on Saturdays. Players will also look to focus on learning the game at younger ages and perfecting their game as they grow in age and skill. Coaches should look to role model good sportsmanship, love of the game, and great work ethic. Youth Basketball is a developmental league where the emphasis is on learning, having fun, and sportsmanship, rather than winning or losing. Basketball is held once a year at the Valparaiso Family YMCA in the Winter.

Tiger Tae-Kwon Do | Ages 3-6
Introduction to the basics of Tae-Kwon Do with a focus on developing motor skills, following directions and discipline. Class is offered Monthly.

Work with a personal coach during your 30 minute sessions for a personalized workout to refine your skills.
Cross Country | Ages 4-12
The philosophy of Y youth and teens sports programs is to use sports as a tool to develop each participant physically, mentally and spiritually. Emphasis is on teaching the values of good sportsmanship, teamwork, goal setting and skill development in a fun, esteem-promoting atmosphere. Cross Country is a sport in which teams or individuals run on an outdoor course on grass, dirt, gravel, and even through some light wooded terrain. The Y is looking to introduce the sport to young athletes who are looking to be active, add conditioning, or even have plans to one day try out for their high school cross country team.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu | Ages 4 - 18

Brazilian Jiu – Jitsu: BJJ is a martial art, combat sport, and a self defense system that focuses on grappling and ground fighting. BJJ promotes the concept that a smaller, weaker person can successfully defend against a bigger, stronger assailant by using proper technique, leverage, and most notably, by taking the fight to the ground. The Jiu Jitsu practitioner then applies joint locks and choke holds to defeat the opponent.
Volleyball | Grade 1 - Grade 8
Pass, set, hit! With an emphasis on team spirit and sportsmanship, players have the opportunity to learn the basic volleyball fundamentals such as underhand serving, setting, hitting, blocking and digging in a fun and positive environment.

Basketball Clinics | Grades 1-6
Basketball Clinics – Shoot and score, by joining us for one of our three Youth Basketball Clinics for children in 1st-6th grade. The clinic will focus on the fundamentals of dribbling, shooting and passing.

Tae-Kwon Do | Ages 7-18
Tae Kwon Do is an eclectic style of martial arts characterized by spinning and high kicks. The goal of this martial art is to help its practitioners develop needed skills, not only for the demanding physical moves that martial arts require but also for our daily lives. “We do not live to do martial arts; rather we do martial arts to live.” - Black Belt 3rd degree instructor Jose Rodea. Classes are divided Ages 7-12 and 13-Adult.

Krav Maga Self Defense | Ages 13+
Designed to teach self-defense in the shortest possible time, based on simple principles and instinctive movements. Krav Maga is a military self-defense and fighting system developed for the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and Israeli security forces. Register for our monthly Krav Maga class and learn how to defend yourself! No Gi, no experience, no problem! Wear what you are comfortable in.
